As the "heart" of electronic devices, quartz crystal oscillators are widely applied, providing stable frequency signals for mobile phones, computers, and even satellites and spacecraft. In the fourth installment of the "High-Quality Development Research Tour: Advanced Manufacturing on the Shop Floor," we visit a leading quartz crystal oscillator manufacturer in Tangshan to examine how these miniature components have captured a substantial market.
Li Yongbin, Director of the Manufacturing Management Center at Tangshan Guoxin Jingyuan Electronics Co., Ltd.:
Zhou Peng, Reporter from Hebei Radio and Television Station: The quartz crystal oscillator I am holding has an extremely broad range of applications. It is integral to everything from smart wearables to large-scale medical equipment.
Guoxin Jingyuan currently offers a comprehensive portfolio of quartz crystal oscillators and resonators, comprising 26 categories and over 6,000 varieties. With an annual production capacity exceeding one billion units, more than 40% of its products are exported to countries and regions including the United States, Germany, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Zhou Peng, Reporter from Hebei Radio and Television Station: The creation of high-precision technology requires stringent environmental controls. I have now entered the quartz crystal oscillator production workshop, where protective measures are even more rigorous than before. How exactly are these quartz crystal oscillators manufactured?
Yang Jing, Manager of the Crystal Production Department at Tangshan Guoxin Jingyuan Electronics Co., Ltd.: In our automated production workshop, operators need only press the start button on the touch screen. Materials such as crystal wafers are then conveyed through an automated transfer system, undergoing processes including adhesive dispensing, curing, fine-tuning, and seam welding to produce the finished quartz crystal oscillators.
Zhou Peng, Reporter from Hebei Radio and Television Station: The quartz crystal oscillator I am holding is the smallest in size, measuring just 1.6 millimeters in length and 1.2 millimeters in width. The quartz wafer inside is merely one-seventeenth the thickness of a human hair.
Li Yongbin, Director of the Manufacturing Management Center at Tangshan Guoxin Jingyuan Electronics Co., Ltd.: Manufacturing such ultra-high fundamental frequency oscillators necessitates photolithography; accordingly, we have established a domestically leading photolithography workshop. Currently, we achieve frequencies up to 312 million cycles per second, with widespread applications in artificial intelligence and high-computing-power servers.
Li Yongbin, Director of the Manufacturing Management Center at Tangshan Guoxin Jingyuan Electronics Co., Ltd.: Artificial intelligence is also a key strategic focus for us. Moving forward, we will benchmark against international industry leaders to master processing technologies for ultra-high fundamental frequency, ultra-high stability, and ultra-miniaturized chip-type frequency components. We aim to research and design additional high-end frequency component products while actively supporting domestic substitution of materials and new infrastructure initiatives.
